Amaia and Marvin

Meeting Amaia and Marvin in Tajikistan

Before starting our trip we did lots of internet research and started writing with Marvin and Amaia who planned a similar trip. Two months before travelling towards Asia we even met them personally in Lausanne to exchange useful information. To our surprise we met them again coincidentally in Tajikistan.

Andor Bezsnei

Next to a hostel in the desert city of Yazd in Iran we saw a Honda XRV 750 AfricaTwin. According to the number plate the owner was Romanian. He was nowhere to be seen, so we left him a note and met on the next day. Riding offroad together was lots of fun. After Iran he went to Pakistan, India, South East Asia and Australia.

Barry

Meeting the Australian motorbiker Barry in Uzbekistan

In a beautiful ancient town on the silk road called Xiva in Uzbekistan we met Barry. As he was traveling in the opposite direction, we sat together and exchanged stories from the road. Motorcycle travellers that take a similar route and come from the other direction are the best source for reliable information, that is up to date. Thanks for the amazing evening, Barry!

Benoit Roberge

Facebook: overlandvagabonds

On the border from China to Pakistan we met four other motorcyclists from Canada and Spain. One of them was Ben. Because a religious festival was taking place in Pakistan, all major roads were blocked so we had to stay a few days in Karimabad. We really enjoyed his company.

Bernd Tesch

We first met Bernd at his 60th international meeting for motorcycle travelers called “Tesch-Travel-Treffen“ in April 2018. We enjoyed it so much, that we came again the following year in April 2019. Thank you Bernd for putting a short summary of our trip to Singapore on your website.

Carlos Bros

Facebook: brosmanontheroad

Carlos was one of the four motorbikers we met on the border from China to Pakistan. He was on his way from Spain to Thailand. Unfortunately he later had an accident in Abbotabad, where his leg got injured. After recovering for a few months in Spain, he got back to Pakistan to continue his trip.

Chema

Sitting together with biker frieds in Myanmar - Chema on the very right

While crossing Myanmar we really enjoyed the company of seven other motorbikers. One of them was Chema on his BMW F800 riding overland from Spain. Thank you Chema for filming us professionally while riding!

We spent a great evening together with him and other bikers where he told us about his experiences and gave us a lot of useful information.

Didier Martin

In Turkmenistan while we were checking out of our hotel we saw another motorcycle parking outside. It belonged to Didier Martin, from France. He has already travelled to most parts of the world. He crossed Africa even twice – one time on the east coast and one time on the west coast. From him we learned that it was possible to enter Afghanistan from Tajikistan.

Elena and Simion

The greatest trip we did with Simion and Elena was the motorcycle travel to Korsika with Andi and Mercedes. Simion was also part of the trip to Ireland and Scotland.

Emmanuel Tissot

Facebook: Emmanuel

Crossing Turkmenistan is challenging. Therefore it was amazing to travel through this country together with Emmanuel. Thank you for helping us lifting the heavy bike in the deep sand countless times on our way to the “Door to Hell”! Sitting together at the Gas Crater after hours of sweating in the hot desert was an incredible experience. Without him, the adventure wouldn’t have been the same. He later went to Mongolia and further until Vladivostok.

Fabian

Instagram: froudshi

Fabian is a passionate motorbiker. He spends his free time riding through curvy roads in the mountains or going through gravel roads. We have known him for a few years and hope to ride together someday.

He started his trip from Delhi and wanted to bring the motorbike back to Austria, where his son had initially started his motorcycle trip to India. Going in different directions, he was traveling north to Kyrgyzstan and we were heading for Pakistan. We exchanged a lot of information about the following countries and had a great time.

Heather Sinclair

At the motorcycle exhibition in Linz we met them personally and they told us about their nephew Lukas, who back then planned to ride from Austria to Nepal (now finished).

Jürgen Priesner

Jürgen (left) and Peter (right) riding in Kyrgyzstan

The world is a small place, we noticed when one day in the morning we recognized the Honda Transalp standing next to our Suzuki V-Strom in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. We already knew Jürgen from social media, so it was great to meet him personally and exchange stories. We really enjoyed riding together for a few meters far away from home. Coming also from Austria, we were happy to accompany him the last kilometers in his hometown at the end of his trip from Austria to Nepal.

Margot

Meeting Margot (red tunica) in Tajikistan

Meeting Margot in the Greenhouse Hostel in Tajikistan was really inspiring. At the age of 64 she rode on a motorbike for the first time. When we met her she was travelling alone from Germany to Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Central Asia and Iran. Whenever she fell, she stood up again and kept on going. Watch the trailer for her movie, which starts in September 2019 in the cinemas.

The couple from Moscow was on their way to Bali when we met in the organized group for the Myanmar crossing. We were amazed how much you can pack on one motorbike. They impressed the other bikers with a cooling box for cold drinks on their bike.

The next day we spent together sightseeing, walking around the famous Naqsch-e Dschahan at night smelling the oriental spices from the Bazaar. When we picked up the bike from Bremerhaven in Germany after shipping it back to Europe we stayed at his place in Karlsruhe.

The first few days in Pakistan we spent together with Simon, Ben and Mathieu from Canada and Carlos from Spain. While riding to Karimabad a landslide got down and separated our group. Two motorcycles where in front, and three behind the big rocks that fell down on the road. Luckily nothing happened and we met again on the next day.

Three months later we came to Agra in India when we saw their Triumph Tiger standing in front of the place we have already booked. What a surprise! The next three weeks we travelled together having lots of fun seeing Tigers and Leopards and also exploring Varanasi together.

Travellers With Cars

Anne-Laure and Jérôme

Anne-Laure and Jérôme at the at the Karakul in Tajikistan

Anne-Laure and Jérôme approached us in the morning, when we were packing away our tent at the Karakul Lake in Tajikistan. They gave us the great tip of sleeping at the Tes hostel in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, where we met them again later. There we spent a few days to relax, service the bike and edit our video about Afghanistan. On their Mongol Ralley car they had two bicycles for children. When we met them they had given one of them to a child on the way and planned to do the same with the second one.

Alexandra and Adrian

Through friends we got in contact with couple who planned to ship their car from Malaysia to Europe around the same time as us. While we were waiting at the traffic lights in Thailand near Koh Samui we heard a loud honking sound. Next to us was a green VW bus with two smiling and waving people inside. We stayed in contact and managed to ship their car and the Suzuki V-Strom together in one container.

Astrid and Christian

Astrid and Christian at the Pamir Lodge in Tajikistan

Where do you get to know your neighbors from the city you live in? In Tajikistan. We met Astrid and Christian the first time in Khorog. They were travelling with their Puch G around the world. We were happy to meet our neighbors again in Cambodia.

Deedrah and Valentin

The Greenhouse Hostel in Dushanbe is a meeting point for many travellers before (or after) the Pamir Highway. There we also met Valentin and Deedrah from Switzerland who travelled with a Hyundai Terracan to Australia. When we met them the second time in Khorog all the restaurants were already closed so they cooked a delicious meal for all four of us. Thanks guys 🙂
